I wanted to give you an update on how my Run Melbourne half marathon went on the weekend and give a big THANK YOU to everyone for all their support! It really did mean a lot to me and during the distance, I needed it to get to the end.

This year 5,535 people completed the 21.1 km run. There were over 20,000 participants overall across all Run Melbourne events that day. The weather was great for a Melbourne July, the course was different this year compared to past years, partly due to the roadworks on St Kilda Road, but it was a great view of our fine city. We left from Flinders Street Station as we do every year, in the dark at 7am and headed down to the river, running along the Casino amongst overwhelmed casino patrons who look quite confused with thousands of runners taking up the esplanade.

I scored a couple of early PB’s but paid for it towards the end ? braking both my 5k and 10k PB, but struggling to finish strong at the end. As always when running 21.1 km it gets tough at the end, but knowing I had your support gave me the focus and determination to complete the event, plus I received great support on the course from fellow runners which also helped.

I completed the run in 1 hour, 35 minutes came in in the top 8% overall which is a good result. Together we raised $3,883.44, which I am very proud of and I hope you feel the same. Without your support, this would not have been achieved, so once again thank you so much.

Jonathan completes Run Melbourne raising money for charity

Jonathan visiting the CMRI stand with the amazing community fundraising lead Julie Lam.

In my conversations with Julie, she extended a very warm invitation to learn more about what the Children’s Medical Research Institute does:

If you are ever in Sydney, please do let me know. I would love to invite you to the institute for a tour. I think it’s important for you to see with your own eyes how your amazing efforts are making a difference in the world of science and medical research (and how your support is impacting the lives of children everywhere!). I guarantee you leave the institute a different person”.

Today, is the main fundraising day for Jeans for Genes day and I encourage you to learn more about the fantastic work that they are doing for the 1 in 20 Australian Children that are born with birth defects or genetic disease.
